Baptism

Baptism

Baptism is a sacrament not only rich in symbolism but also very real in substance and benefit – and commanded by God:

“Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins” (Acts 2:38 NIV).

Through baptism, God grants forgiveness of sins and offers spiritual rebirth and salvation.

Because of the importance of baptism -

“Unless a man is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God” (John 3:5)

- and because infants are as sinful and in need of forgiveness as adults -

“Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me” (Psalm 51:5)

- Zion practices infant baptism. Adults who have not yet been baptized are also encouraged to contact Pastor Treptow to make arrangements.

You need not be a member of Zion to be or to have your child baptized, nor will we pressure you to join if you do. It is important to remember, however, that baptism is only the first step on the lifelong road of faith. The Christian faith which the Holy Spirit creates at baptism must be fed and strengthened throughout life with regular reminders from the Word of God and by fellowship with other believers. At Zion, you and your child can grow in faith together through regular worship, regular study of God’s Word, reading the Bible and fellowship with God’s people.God creates and sustains faith in our hearts, but if we neglect that faith, over time our hearts may reject his Holy Spirit.
